Free llms.txt generator

Your site’s name, its summary, its pages: the generator writes your llms.txt file in the llmstxt.org format, ready to copy or download.

The llms.txt file introduces your site to AI assistants and agents: a title, a summary, then the list of your pages, each with a short note. The generator writes it for you, as you fill in the fields. It works in your browser: nothing is sent anywhere, and nothing is kept.

The generator works in your browser, without sending anything anywhere; it needs JavaScript. Without it, here is the format to follow:

# Nom du site

> Une phrase qui dit ce que fait le site.

## Pages

- [La carte](https://exemple.fr/#carte): les plats et leurs prix
- [Nous trouver](https://exemple.fr/#contact): l’adresse et les horaires

What the file contains

The format is the one proposed by llmstxt.org, published by Jeremy Howard in September 2024:

  1. a title with the site’s name, the only required part;
  2. a summary in one or two sentences, written as a quote;
  3. details, if needed: what else an assistant should know;
  4. sections, each with a list of links: the page name, its address, and a note after a colon.

A section named “Optional” holds secondary links, which an agent in a hurry can skip. Write “## Optional” in the pages field to open it.

How to fill in the pages

One page per line, in the form Title | https://address | note. The note is optional. A line starting with ## opens a section, for example “## Practical info”. The generator flags a line it can’t read, or an address that doesn’t start with https://, without copying it.

For a one-page site, the “pages” are often its sections, each with its anchor: https://example.com/#menu, https://example.com/#contact. Describe what is found there in a few words: opening hours, prices, the area served.

Where to put it

The file is called llms.txt and goes at the root of the site: https://your-domain.com/llms.txt. Open that address after uploading it: the text should display as is. Our own site publishes its file, at 29webs.com/llms.txt, built at each update from the list of our pages.

What to expect from it

llms.txt is still a proposal. It helps agents that read documentation or a site to carry out a task. Google, for its part, states that no special file or markup is needed to appear in its AI-generated answers. So the file replaces neither well-written pages nor a robots.txt that lets search bots through: see what to know about llms.txt and how to get cited by AI.

In short: an llms.txt fits in a few lines, goes at the root of the site, and is kept up to date with your pages. Useful to the agents that read it, it complements a good site without replacing it.
