The website of a sports club or a gym: what it must show

Time slots, full prices, qualified coaches, cancellation: what a future member checks, and the layout the studio builds for a club.

Updated · 6 min read

Whoever opens the website of a club or a gym already wants to come. They come to check that they can: a slot at their time, a price they understand, someone competent to coach them. It is often a parent signing up their child, or an adult returning to sport after years who dreads feeling lost. The site lifts these doubts one by one, then leads to the slot.

What the customer comes looking for

  1. The time slots: the days, the hours, the levels, the ages. The weekly schedule, the one for the current season.
  2. The full price: membership, the license, sign-up fees, the length of commitment, what is included.
  3. Who coaches: the instructors, their discipline, their qualifications.
  4. The place: the hall, the pitch, the changing rooms, access and parking.
  5. How to try: a trial session, a taster class, and the button to book.
  6. How to stop: suspension, cancellation. Saying it upfront reassures more than it worries.

The “Sports club” layout

The studio offers it to gyms, clubs and pitches, where almost everyone comes to book a slot: every slice leads back to it.

Gyms, clubs, courts. People come to book a slot, everything must lead there. The slices are shown bare, as the library draws them, before your copy, your images and your background.
  • The anchored navigation is transparent over the video, then closes into a bar as you scroll: the booking button stays within reach all the way down.
  • The bottom-left hero sets the club’s name and a sentence at the bottom left, letting the video breathe. Its button leads to your booking tool.
  • The accented figures give three proofs, no more: courts, slots per week, years of existence. The library notes it itself: four accented numbers, and the accent no longer signals anything.
  • The prices set the plans in equal columns, which compare at a glance: what each includes, and an action.
  • The strip gallery scrolls horizontally under a finger: the hall, the classes, the matches, the changing rooms. It holds many images without lengthening the page.
  • The before / after shows two states of the same frame, separated by a handle you drag: the pitch before and after resurfacing, the hall before and after the works. The framing must be exactly the same, otherwise the comparison lies.
  • The testimonials bring together several members. A single review reads like the club talking about itself.
  • The contact gives the address, the front desk hours and the phone as real links: a tap to call or open the map.
  • The columned footer holds the rest: the schedule, access, the legal notice.

The background is a looping video: it plays on its own while the slices rise as you scroll, the simplest and sturdiest behavior in the library. Vignetting darkens the edges of the image and brings the eye back to the center: it gives the title contrast without touching the video. This video is a scene shot by a model from your description, not footage of your gym: your real photos go in the gallery.

What the rules say

Coaches and their qualifications

In France, coaching, teaching or leading a physical or sports activity for pay requires a diploma, title or certificate registered in the national register of professional certifications (RNCP). The instructor declares their activity to the authorities, who check their qualification and good repute, then issue a professional card; the declaration is renewed every five years. In the facility, a copy of the card and the diploma must be displayed where the activity takes place (Bpifrance Création, 2025).

The card carries a QR code leading to its holder’s up-to-date qualifications, which can also be looked up on the Ministry of Sports’ public site, eapspublic.sports.gouv.fr. The good-repute requirement also applies to volunteers.

The site doesn’t have to repeat what is posted in the gym, but it gains from extending it. For each coach: the first name, the discipline, the exact name of the qualification. “Certified coaches” says nothing; “BPJEPS fitness activities” says everything. If your classes are led by volunteers, say so simply, with their federation qualifications when they have them.

Prices and the contract

The DGCCRF points it out in its sheet on gyms: before any commitment, the customer must receive clear information about the service, its duration, the cancellation terms, the prices and the identity of the business. Prices including tax and the house rules are also displayed in the facility. Among the misleading practices its investigators find most often: sign-up fees missing from ads, the first month’s price presented as the subscription price, a “promotional” offer valid all year round (DGCCRF, 2026).

Cancelling online

Since the law of August 16, 2022, a contract you can take out online must be possible to cancel online. Service-public.fr expressly cites gyms. The feature is announced by the words “cancel your contract”, readable and easy to reach, and you must not have to create a personal account to get to it. Failure exposes a company to an administrative fine of up to €75,000 (Entreprendre.service-public.gouv.fr, 2023).

If your membership tool allows signing up online, it must therefore offer this feature. A “Cancel” link in your site’s footer saves people from hunting for it.

The “Book a slot” button

The studio takes neither bookings nor memberships itself. The hero button and the navigation button lead wherever you want: your scheduling software, your federation’s sign-up page, your phone number, your email. A single destination, the same everywhere.

For a trial session, write what to bring and what time to arrive: it is the question every beginner asks themselves without daring to ask. For other questions, the contact block gives the club’s number and email address, as links that open with a tap. More ideas for writing the button in our tip on calls to action.

The mistakes that cost members

  • A price without the sign-up fees, or the first month’s price put forward: the DGCCRF lists it among common misleading practices.
  • Last season’s schedule: the hours have changed, the site hasn’t.
  • Qualifications announced without being named.
  • Stock photos, with sculpted bodies and empty gyms: nobody recognizes themselves in them.
  • Reviews with no first name or date, which look like reviews written by the club. See how to show your customers’ reviews.
  • Cancellation nowhere to be found: it turns up later in the reviews.
